Lessons begin with fundamental horse care. Students will learn proper horsemanship. Megan Mahoney emphasizes safety while teaching students how to properly groom, tack, and handle horses. Equitation is an important focus at Megan Mahoney Training. New riders will learn a safe, balanced position and continuing equestrians will sharpen their competition style and skills.

Megan Mahoney’s equine history is impressive. She began riding at age ten and as a teenager held a working student position with Ginnie Bryant and Equites. She competed in local and national shows, was an active member in the United States Pony Club, and gained valuable riding and horse management experience.

Megan’s education (both equine and academic) continued at California State University, Fresno. She competed on the Equestrian Team, won numerous championships, and helped the team achieve NCAA status. Go Bulldogs! While working towards her B.A. in Communication (graduated 1998), she was fortunate to receive training from top professionals. Megan attended clinics with Chuck Smallwood, George Morris, Monty Roberts, Leslie Webb and Linda Allen. With this extensive training, Megan learned how to handle and train difficult horses, and win in the show arena. Working as a barn manager with Laurie Ridge and Ridge Farms, she gained valuable experience and learned how to maintain and run a stable.

Combining knowledge and experience with both people and horses sets Megan above the rest. She decided to continue her academic education at California State University, Hayward (now East Bay) and graduated in 2000 with an M.A. in Communication. While completing her coursework, Megan taught several communication courses at CSUH. This teaching experience developed her skill as an instructor; as a result her riding lessons are clear, informative, and successful. Meanwhile, Megan worked as an assistant trainer with Diane Yeager at Westhaven Farm. Training young horses and coaching riders to top ribbons was a dream come true. Horses are known for being fragile, and she assisted Dr. Sharp and Dr. Keilty as a veterinary technician. Megan’s vast knowledge stems from hands-on experience handling and healing horses.

Megan Mahoney’s expansive background and experience gives her the winning edge. Her impressive insight to horses allows students to learn all about horses, horse care, and riding. While horsemanship and riding remain the focus of instruction, students also learn valuable life skills. Children grow strong and balanced, and adults find peace in a busy life. This is the extra bonus to being around horses. These wonderful animals teach us to be patient, kind, responsible, and compassionate.
